As Israeli-Palestinian tensions resurface, China has scaled back the bold mediation role it envisioned in the Beijing Declaration. Yet, as Xiaoyu Lu, conflict mediation scholar at Peking University, and Dounia Al Jijakli, a Yenching Academy specialist in China–Middle East relations, note, Beijing still holds potential in fostering multilateral peace efforts.
